Low Budget Home Improvements

If you want to brighten your home up because you have visitors coming to stay, or because you are moving, then you won't want to spend a lot of money. Brightening up your home and improving the way it looks should not cost much nor should it take too much time. Follow the budget tips for home improvement in this article and you will have given your home a brand new look at little cost.

Staining Furniture

If you have some favorite items of furniture that you don't want to get rid of but which are not looking their best then try painting or staining them. Polished wood dining chairs in particular can soon lose their shine and become scraped and scruffy due to regular use. Get yourself a pot of stain that is as close to the original color of the chairs then stain them. The best way to do this is on a dry day when you can take them out into the garden and once you have finished leave them to dry for a few hours. Get a set of new seat pads for your dining chairs as well, and they will look as good as new.

Dressing Your Windows

Most budget home improvement tips will include the drapes as nothing brightens and improves the look of any room more than some new drapes. If your wallpaper is not too busy then you could try one of the many new patterns that are on the market; alternatively get them in a plain color and save the patterns for cushions and seat pads. Make sure that the other accessories echo the color of the drapes to give your home a more together look.

In the Kitchen

If you want to improve the look of your kitchen but can't afford new units then try giving them a coat of paint. The distressed wood look is in vogue at the moment and you can buy paint that is designed to achieve this look; alternatively while the paint is still dry you can over it to produce the lines etc which give the distressed effect. You could also buy new accessories such as a bin and drainer in a color that matches with the cupboard doors.

In the Bathroom

Sprucing up a bathroom is another area that can be achieved on a budget. If you are tired of the look of your bathroom tiles then get some tile paint, you could also get some transfers to go on the tiles. Get yourself some new tooth mugs and a new soap dish as well as some fluffy new towels in a toning color and your bathroom will look almost as good as new. If you follow the budget home improvement tips in this article you will soon have a brighter and more welcoming home.
